Our aim is to provide the highest standard of care in stunning, luxury accommodation where all our residents’ needs are met in a comfortable, happy, and above all safe environment.
What is Lewy bodies?
Lewy bodies, named for their discoverer Fritz Heinrich Lewy, are small deposits of protein that develop inside nerve cells. They can lead to dementia, as well as Parkinson’s disease and other disorders.
It is a less understood area of dementia, but those diagnosed can benefit from similar care and support as most other forms. Though there is currently no cure, those with Lewy bodies can be supported in their daily life at facilities like Highpoint Care.
Symptoms of dementia with Lewy bodies
Those with Lewy body dementia may have much of the usual symptoms of other forms of dementia:
• memory loss
• disorientation
• difficulty with understanding and concentration
• difficulty moving
They are also particularly likely to experience hallucinations, which can lead to delusions, as well as tremors, disturbed sleep, fainting spells, and falls.
Activities available at Highpoint
One way to support those with dementia with Lewy bodies is with appropriate stimulating activities. It can be as simple as conversation, while Highpoint Care also allows for creative pastimes, hobbies, games, and gentle exercise.
