What is Huntington’s disease?
Huntingtons’s disease is a condition that stops part of the brain working over time. It is usually fatal after a gradual period of decline, across around 20 years. It’s an inherited disease, with symptoms that usually begin to show between the ages of 30 and 50.
Symptoms of Huntington’s disease
The first symptoms of Huntington’s usually show at 30-50 years of age, though it can be earlier or later. They include:
- memory lapses
- depression
- mood swings
- clumsiness
- involuntary fidgeting or jerking movements
- problems swallowing
- difficulty with movement

One way to support those with Huntington’s is with appropriate stimulating activities. It can be as simple as conversation, while Highpoint Care also allows for creative pastimes, hobbies, games, and gentle exercise.
