What is vascular dementia?
Vascular dementia is the second most common type of dementia, after Alzheimer’s disease. It refers to dementia caused by a loss of blood to the brain, damaging it. This could occur from a stroke, or from diseases of the blood vessels in the brain. Types of vascular dementia include stroke-related dementia, post-stroke dementia, single-infarct and multi-infarct dementia, and subcortical dementia. There is currently no cure, but those with vascular dementia can be supported in their daily life at facilities like Highpoint Care – including help with treatments that can slow its onset.
